What is sclerotherapy?
It is a treatment used to remove capillaries (or ‘spiders veins’) that usually appear on legs, arms and face.
What is Laser Sclerotherapy ?
A technique that is administered without needles, a Nd-YAG laser beam is used to achieve cauterize the “spiders” in legs, face and other body parts. This technique has the advantage of promising to avoid the inconvenience of punctures, risks of infection, or necrosis by these. It is an optical system that can eliminate the barely visible vessel in a very quick way.
How does the laser work?
The Nd- YAG laser (wavelength of 1064nm) has a high affinity for hemoglobin, so that it penetrates the skin without damaging it and reaches the blood in order to close vessels. It is the only really effective way to fix these unsightly “spider veins” and small superficial leg telangiectasis. If these vascular lesions are larger (more than 4mm in diameter), it would be treated by other methods (medical sclerotherapy or surgery).
The Nd-YAG only improves “aesthetic” and lower extremity surface problems, such as “functional” disorders (edema, fatigue, temperature changes, etc.) Any of these conditions should be previously diagnosed and, if necessary, processed by a vascular surgeon.
Subsequent treatment recommendations:
There is no need to use special bandages or complicated recovery instructions, the only recommendation is to use medium gradient stockings for 1 or 2 weeks after the procedure is done in the lower limbs. This is only in some cases.
Usually the patient needs 1-3 sessions every 30 to 90 days. The treated skin should not be exposed to the sun.
